Brazil Asks Google To Shutter More Orkut Communities

Google's expecting a new list of Orkut communities that Brazilian authorities believe violate local law, a Google representative said May 24.The list was drafted following a meeting Tuesday that Google representatives had in Brazil, with the same officials. The topic concerned how some Orkut communities promote hate speech, child pornography and some forms of political extremism, all of which violates Brazilian law.Orkut is wildly popular in Brazil, and very less so elsewhere around the globe. It's estimated that a third of Brazilians that have an Internet connection belong to Google's Orkut."We will review and immediately remove any communities that threaten immediate harm to individuals or otherwise violates our terms of service," a Google representative said in response to a question about the meeting.
